Gaitway To Independence

A New Approach To Providing Healthcare From The Heart

Sacramento, California - May 31, 2007 - While the month of June is typically a time for vacationing and relaxing, the team at Sunrise Pedorthics, Orthotics & Prosthetics has a far different agenda.  Their on-going dedication to enhancing the overall well-being among those with mobility challenges have manifested into a month of events starting with the Gaitway to Independence Health Fair (An Interactive Health Fair for Diabetes Sufferers, Amputees and Those in Wheelchairs) on June 2nd at their 3127 Fite Circle facility.  It will then extend across the Pacific Ocean to Beijing, China, where the Governor of Kentucky will be making a monumental visit.  The traveling event will then conclude in the sister city of Sacramento, Jinan, China.

The energy, enthusiasm and compassion that sparked the creation of the upcoming Gaitway to Independence Health Fair have proven to be far too strong to contain within the scope of a single day’s events.  A recent whirlwind of events have showered Sunrise with some promising opportunities to continue its mission of promoting wellness through the practice of pedorthics, orthotics, and prosthetics.

Sunrise has been a long standing partner in providing positive outcomes for patients of Kaiser Permanente, as well as many other area health providers.

Recently, Sunrise has been added to the highly respected Hill Physicians list of accredited suppliers.  The physicians within this group practice across a wide spectrum of medical facilities, and their scope of influence is expected to equate to a steady stream of patients for Sunrise.  This new partnership will also allow for potential access to medical institutions and insurance firms that would otherwise be virtually inaccessible.

On a global level, Sunrise is extending the Gaitway to Independence event and its spirit beyond national boundaries to its clinic in Beijing, China.  Amidst the cascade of events, the Governor of Kentucky, Ernie Fletcher, and his wife Glenna Fletcher, are scheduled to visit the clinic in mid-June to sign a manufacturing/distribution agreement with Restorative Medical, Inc. (RMI), a close partner with Sunrise.  During their visit, the Governor and his wife will tour the facility and listen to testimonials on regained mobility and improved lifestyles from Sunrise patients in Beijing.  They will see firsthand how a specialized RGO brace (manufactured by Fillauer), along with the caring touch of a skilled practitioner, can almost instantly transform a 7-year-old child’s life from one of chronic pain and immobility to one filled with liberation and a hope for a brighter future.  They will have compelling proof of how crucial such trade agreements between our two nations are to the lives of people suffering throughout the world.

The Gaitway to Independence journey will not stop here.  A few hours southeast of Beijing is the city of Jinan, which is where our story will continue.  During the week of June 18th, the spirit of the Gaitway to Independence health fair will be brought to the people of Jinan.  They will have the opportunity to gain empowerment over their own health through education, as well as experience how technology can renew their mobility.

Collectively, the words “Gaitway to Independence” embody an entirely new approach to healthcare; one fueled by a passion to help and an intense desire to make a difference.  With the images of our patients as our guiding light, every step Sunrise takes will carry us, our patients and our partners farther along on our journey through the Gaitway to Independence.  Together we will move beyond conventional boundaries to connect as a unified force dedicated to enriching the lives of others through improved health and greater mobility.

June 2007 may be the beginning, but the beautiful impact on humanity that will result from implementing the Gaitway to Independence philosophy into our daily actions will know no end.  Please join us on this incredible journey as we, along with our growing family of partners, encourage our hearts to lead our efforts toward helping others.
